Twin Baby Girls Attacked By Fox
Twin nine-month-old baby girls have been injured in an attack by a fox at their home in east London.
Police and paramedics were called to a house in the Stoke Newington area at around 10pm on Saturday evening. It is believed that the fox was in an upstairs room where the children were sleeping. They were taken to the Royal London Hospital suffering from wounds to the arms; one of the girls also suffered facial injuries. The babies are said to be in a “serious but stable” condition. Police are not treating the incident as suspicious.
Fox attacks on humans are extremely rare, though a vixen will attack to protect her young; however, until this weekend’s attack there are no records of humans being seriously injured. In 2002 a child was injured by a fox in Dartford, Kent while in 2004 a pensioner suffered a three-inch cut to the neck in a fox attack in Edinburgh.
Foxes are surprisingly common in urban areas with around 27 per square mile.
