Eto’o Receives Three-Match Ban After Zidane-Style Headbutt (Video)
Inter Set To Launch Eto’o Appeal
Inter Milan striker Samuel Eto’o has received a three-match ban plus a fine for headbutting Chievo defender Bostjan Cesar during the two sides’ Serie A game on Sunday.
Eto’o was seen to headbutt Cesar in the chest after appearing to go down clutching his head after a challenge although TV replays suggested there was no initial contact by Cesar. After getting to his feet and while preparing for the Inter free kick, Eto’o headbutted Cesar in the chest ‘Zidane-style’ out of sight of the referee.
In a statement on Tuesday, Serie A said:
“The television images show that under the circumstances, the Chievo player Cesar was reached by the Inter striker who hit him with his head on the chest, making him fall to the ground in pain.
“The referee did not, at the time of the incident, take action as his attention was to control the other area of the field with his assistants.
“The Judge thus retains that Eto’o's actions constitute to violent conduct in light of the television proof.”
Eto’o has also been fined £25,500. He will miss Inter’s games with Parma, Lazio and Cesena.
Inter have said they will appeal against the league’s decision.
Chelsea and Manchester City have been warned off AC Milan striker Alexandre Pato – by the player himself.
The 21-year-old Brazilian has been linked with a £55 million move to the Premier League in January however Pato denied that he was leaving Milan and that even if he did he would only consider a move to Barcelona:
“What do I think of City’s interest? As far as I’m concerned, it’s an honour but I do not intend to leave Milan. I am very happy with the Rossoneri and have great affection for the team. If I was going to leave Milan, I’d only go to Barca.”
Pato has averaged a goal in every other league game since joining Milan from Brazilian side Internacional in 2007.
Manchester City are to sign Lazio left-back Aleksander Kolarov on a five-year deal. The Serb has passed a medical at Eastlands and City discovered on Saturday morning that he has secured a work permit.
The fee has not been disclosed. Reports in the UK suggest that Kolarov has cost City 22.5 million euros (£18.9 million) although reports in Italy suggest a fee of 18 million euros (£15 million).
Kolarov signed for Lazio from Serbian side OFK Belgrade in 2007 for 800,000 euros (£675,000). During his second season in the Rome side he established himself as first-choice left-back and made the first of 15 international appearances for Serbia.
City boss Roberto Mancini hailed Kolarov’s arrival at the club:
“His attacking capability is very good. He is fast and can shoot with power and accuracy. He also has the ability to play in numerous positions and is very good in midfield.
“This is an additional benefit to the team. He has a fantastic international career ahead of him. I am looking forward to working with him.”
Mancini also soothed fears the Wayne Bridge – reported to be a target for Liverpool – could be forced out of Eastlands with Kolarov’s arrival.
“I want two top-class players for each position,” he said.
Japanese World Cup star Keisuke Honda is on the verge of a move to Italian giants AC Milan.
Honda’s club, CSKA Moscow, have responded to an 13 million euro bid from Milan on Thursday with a request for a higher bid of 15 million euros.
Honda signed for CSKA at the beginning of 2008 after a successful spell in Holland with VVV Venlo, but a series of impressive performances for Japan in the World Cup have led to a series of reports linking him with clubs in England, Spain and Italy.
Manchester City target Edin Dzeko could turn his back on the Premier League and head to Juventus.
Dzeko reportedly told Italian website Tuttosport: “I will reject Manchester City once again if Juventus really want me,” after negotiations on Wednesday between Dzeko’s agent and the Italian club’s general director Giuseppe Marotta.
However, as with City, the price could be the deal-killer. Dzeko’s club, Bundesliga side Vfl Wolfsburg, want 50 million euros for the Bosnian striker and while it is believed that they may go as low as 40 million euros Juventus may struggle to raise that amount.
The Italian side are ready to offer 20 million euros plus Diego for the striker but the German side are holding out for a cash payment.

Reports from Italy suggest that AC Milan striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is about to join Liverpool with Ryan Babel going the other way to Milan.
The Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport reports that Huntelaar flew to England for talks on Tuesday, although it speculated that Huntelaar would only join Liverpool if Fernando Torres departed from Anfield. It also said that Milan would press for Ryan Babel to be included in the deal.
The player was not at Milan’s training complex on Wednesday.
Huntelaar has also been linked with a move to either Spurs or Aston Villa. He has struggled, first at Real Madrid and then at Milan, since leaving Ajax at the start of 2009.

A report from Spain suggests that new Inter Milan boss Rafa Benitez has been told that his Brazilian defender Maicon is likely to be sold to Real Madrid.
The Spanish newspaper, AS, reports today that if Inter’s price of 35 million euros is met, then Maicon will be on his way, something bound to upset Benitez as he regarded Maicon as a mainstay of the team. However, Real are apparently not willing to pay any more than the 25 million euros they have already offered but are willing to offer a pay packet the equivalent of £80,000 a week – a considerable increase on the money Maicon earns at Inter.

Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti has announced that former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has been appointed manager of Inter.
The Spaniard left Liverpool last week after six years as team manager during which he won the Champions League in 2005.
Moratti is convinced he has found the right successor to Jose Mourinho. “I can only say good things about him because he is a great coach,” he said. “After all he defeated Mourinho five times in the past.”
Club owner Enrico Preziosi said today that the Bayern Munich striker has agreed a preliminary deal with the Italian club. “We have offered him a two-year contract, but we still have the intention to close the deal,” Preziosi said.
Toni had been on-loan at Roma since January after falling out of favour at Bayern and scored five times in 14 games. Genoa had been interested in Roma striker Julio Baptista but that interest will end if they sign Toni.
Toni spent three years at Bayern scoring 38 times in 60 league games, but he was disciplined after leaving the stadium when substituted at half-time in a match against Schalke 04.
