West Brom defender Abdoulaye Meite could be on his way out of The Hawthorns, according to TalkSport. The Ivory Coast international has made only two appearances this season and looks surplus to requirements but his £20,000-a-week wages could be a problem for any potential buyers and the club could come to an arrangement with Meite to cancel his contract.
French side Lens were said to be interested during the summer and may renew their interest if Meite becomes a free agent in January.
Turkish striker Tuncay is being linked with a move to West Brom, according to the Daily Mirror.
The Stoke City forward was left out of the game with Bolton on Saturday and was rumoured in the summer to be ready to depart the Britannia Stadium.
Baggies boss Roberto di Matteo is known to be a fan of Tuncay’s but he may have competition for the 28-year-old’s signature from Turkish sides Galatasaray and Besiktas.
West Bromwich Albion keeper Scott Carson says he was devastated to be left out of Fabio Capello’s England squad for the match with Montenegro next week but says the only way he can force his way back into the reckoning is with his performances on the pitch.
Carson was called up for the games with Switzerland and Bulgaria but had to withdraw from the squad for personal reasons. However, he has now been left out of the squad for the Montenegro game with Joe Hart, Robert Green and Ben Foster getting the nod.
“Getting the recall for the last qualifiers was a big boost,” Carson told The Sun.
“I was delighted to be back but I needed to leave after a couple of days. The club then had a fax through to say I was in the provisional squad and I thought I’d be okay and be in the squad because I was in the last one. I was really devastated to find myself out this time.
“Having got back in for the last squad, I thought I’d carried my form on in the last few games. Being forced to pull out last time was for personal reasons and things seem to have gone against me.”
However, Carson won’t let his omission get him down.
“I won’t sulk,” he said. “I have to keep performances up and get everyone talking about me again in a good way.
“How I react to this is important. I will let my performances get me back in.”

The 20-year-old was linked with a move to Middlesbrough during the summer but Rochdale turned down a £500,000 bid from Boro and are set to accept an offer from the Baggies which will see Dawson going back to Sppotland on loan.
Dawson was named League Two Player Of The Season last season and joined Dale from non-league side Radcliffe Borough in 2009. He has made 45 league appearances for Dale and has quickly become a fans’ favourite.
West Bromwich Albion are hoping to land Aston Villa midfielder Steve Sidwell before the transfer window closes.
The £3 million-rated Sidwell is one of a number of players surplus to requirements at Villa Park and was linked during the close season with moves to West Ham and Fulham but now Roberto di Matteo is hoping to tie up a deal for Sidwell in an attempt to boost his side’s chances of survival in the Premier League.
Albion have lost two of their opening three games this season and are also being linked with former Wigan defender Paul Scharner. The Austrian has been without a club since leaving the DW Stadium at the end of last season.

West Brom Sign Marc-Antoine Fortune
West Bromwich Albion have signed Marc-Antoine Fortune from Celtic. The 29-year-old striker has signed a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
Fortune had a successful loan spell at The Hawthorns from French side Nancy during the second half of the 2008-09 season but followed former Albion boss Tony Mowbray when he left for Parkhead.
The Frenchman hit 12 goals in 40 games for the Hoops last season.
West Brom have bid £3 million for Getafe midfielder Derek Boateng. The Ghanaian, who was in his country’s squad at the World Cup, was tracked by Albion boss Roberto di Matteo earlier in the summer.
Boateng joined Spanish side Getafe last summer in a 1 million euro deal from German side Cologne. The 27-year-old is much travelled having also played for clubs in Greece, Sweden and Israel in his career.
West Brom’s latest bid for Portsmouth defender Marc Wilson has been turned down by the Championship club.
West Brom had a £2.5 million bid rejected last week and Portsmouth administrator Andrew Andronikou said that this latest bid is £3 million plus add-ons.
“Steve Cotterill does not want to sell such an important player,” Andoronikou told Portsmouth newspaper The News.
“At the moment, as a club, he is not a player we have identified to sell. We will have to wait and see what happens.”
Meanwhile Cotterill has rejected suggestions that Pompey are set to take Manchester United winger Gabriel Obertan on loan. Obertan was spotted amongst the Portsmouth fans during their game at Preston on Saturday and told Portsmouth supporters he was cheering on a friend, believed to be Pompey’s Ibrahima Sonko.
‘I don’t know what Obertan was doing there” said Cotterill.
West Brom have denied making a bid for Celtic’s Marc-Antoine Fortune. The Frenchman had a successful loan spell at The Hawthorns from French side Nancy during the second half of the 2008-09 season and followed former boss Tony Mowbray when he left for Parkhead. However, Celtic boss Neil Lennon wants to raise funds to further strengthen his squad and could be prepared to listen to offers. West Ham are also said to be interested and could be about to bid £2.5 million.
Meanwhile, Baggies target Chieck Tiote is set to join Newcastle from Dutch champions FC Twente in a £3.5 million deal.
Newcastle United have joined the race for FC Twente’s Ivory Coast international Chieck Tiote.
West Bromwich Albion bid £2 million for the midfielder earlier this week, a bid the Dutch champions look set to reject.
West Brom Still In For Marc Wilson
West Bromwich have not given up on landing Portsmouth midfielder Marc Wilson. The Baggies had a £2.5 million offer for Wilson rejected earlier this week but boss Roberto di Matteo has not yet given up hope.
Di Matteo is looking for Wilson to fit into the defensive midfield role as a partner for Youssouf Mulumbu. Chris Brunt filled the role throughout pre-season and in Saturday’s 6-0 defeat at Chelsea.
West Brom are ready to sign Nigerian World Cup winger Peter Odemwingie from Lokomotiv Moscow in a deal worth around £2.5 million.
Odemwingie signed for Lokomotiv from French side Lille for a reported £9.5 million in 2007 but the 29-year-old has confirmed that he has signed a three-year deal with the Baggies. “I couldn’t refuse the chance to come play in the Premiership,” he told BBC Sport.
Stoke and West Brom are in a race to sign Ipswich striker Jon Walters.
The 26-year-old former Blackburn and Bolton man had told Ipswich he wants to leave and a £3 million offer from Stoke has already been turned down, but now West Brom are expected to up the ante with an offer of their own.
“The offers we’ve had don’t meet our evaluation,” said Ipswich boss Roy Keane.

West Brom Set To Make Bid For Marc Wilson
West Bromwich Albion are ready to make Portsmouth an offer for Marc Wilson. Pompey rate the 22-year-old at £5 million but the Baggies are ready to make a lower offer to Portsmouth this week.
Boss Roberto di Matteo wants to play Wilson in a holding midfielder role, where Wilson has performed at his best for Portsmouth.
Wilson joined Pompey in 2004 from the Manchester United youth system and is in the final year of his current contract.
West Brom Sign Shorey
West Bromwich Albion have signed Aston Villa full-back Nicky Shorey on a two-year deal plus the option of a further year.
The 29-year-old left-back has made the short move from Villa after passing a medical at West Brom. The Baggies are believed to have paid around £1 million for the former England player.

Shorey Set To Join West Brom
Nicky Shorey is set to join West Bromwich Albion from Aston Villa in a £1.5 million deal. The 29-year-old defender was put on the transfer list by Martin O’Neill earlier this summer and is willing to take a cut in his £33,000 a week wages to revive his career.
Shorey has made just 33 appearances for Villa since signing from Reading in 2008 and spent much of last season out on loan, first at Notts Forest and then at Fulham.
He was tipped to make the move to Craven Cottage permanent but the deal was abandoned after Roy Hodgson left for Liverpool.
West Bromwich Albion captain Scott Carson is relishing his role as captain as his club begins their latest Premier League campaign.
The 24-year-old was given the captain’s armband at the start of last season following Jonathan Greening’s departure for Fulham and despite competition between the sticks from £1.5 million signing Boaz Myhill, Carson is eager for the challenge of a new season.
“I spoke to the gaffer in Holland and he said that yes it worked well last season and he’d like me to do it again this season,” Carson told the Birmingham Mail.
“The gaffer will tell me what’s happening, and sometimes I have to go and tell the players something they don’t want to hear so I can be a bit of a gopher at times between the coaching staff and the players but that’s part of the job.”
Carson joined the Baggies in 2008 after spells at Liverpool and Leeds.
