Gudjohnsen Looks Set To Leave Stoke
Eidur Gudjohnsen may be on his way out of Stoke City after less than six months at the club.
The 32-year-old was signed in a £2 million deal from Monaco at the beginning of September but has failed to score for Stoke in five appearances.
Manager Tony Pulis is said to be unhappy about Gudjohnsen’s fitness levels and has admitted that the Icelander could be sold.
“If there’s a deal you think is right for the club and the player thinks is right for him, then you get the deal done,” Pulis said last week.
Brendan Rogers is said to be interested in giving the 32-year-old a chance at Swansea City. Rogers knows Gudjohnsen from their time together at Chelsea and believes he may find his level in the Championship.

Zaragoza Want £6m To Make Pennant Move Permanent
Spanish side Real Zaragoza have told Stoke City that they must pay £6 million if they want to make Jermaine Pennant’s loan move permanent.
Tony Pulis wants to keep Pennant at the Britannia Stadium when the loan agreement expires at the end of this month, but the cash-strapped La Liga outfit are keen to cash in on a player whom they signed on a free transfer little more than a year ago.
Pulis is unlikely to pay Zaragoza’s current asking price and it is expected that some horse trading will take place.
The Spanish side are unlikely to want Pennant back at La Romareda and Pennant has himself expressed a desire to stay with Stoke.
Stoke City are looking to sign Aston Villa’sStephen Ireland on loan in January with a view to a £6 million permanent deal next summer, according to the Daily Mirror.
City boss Tony Pulis tried to sign the midfielder during the summer but had a £7 million bid rejected by Manchester City. Ireland eventually went to Villa in an £8 million deal that saw James Milner go the other way.
Last month Villa boss Gerard Houllier accused Ireland of not working hard enough but suggested that the club would support him.
“It’s a difficult period for him,” Houllier said at the time. “We support him. We back him. He comes to a new club and there’s a change of manager inbetween. We will be 100% for him.
“We know he is a good player. But I don’t want to have players who you say: ‘He’s a good player but …’”

Stoke Renew Interest In Jemal
Stoke City are interested in Young Boys central defender/left back Ammar Jemal. The Tunisian signed for the Swiss side only this summer and played in the first leg of their Champions League qualifier with Spurs.
Jemal moved to Young Boys from Tunisian side Etoile du Sahel in May of this year and his performances for the Berne side have brought him to Tony Pulis’s attention. Pulis failed to make a move for the 23-year-old before the transfer window closed but rumours began to circulate earlier this month about a bid in the January window. It is believed that Young Boys are looking for £2 million for a player they signed on a free transfer just six months ago.
Jemal was an African Champions League winner with Etoile du Sahel in 2007 and has played 23 times for the Tunisian national side scoring three goals.
Turkish striker Tuncay is being linked with a move to West Brom, according to the Daily Mirror.
The Stoke City forward was left out of the game with Bolton on Saturday and was rumoured in the summer to be ready to depart the Britannia Stadium.
Baggies boss Roberto di Matteo is known to be a fan of Tuncay’s but he may have competition for the 28-year-old’s signature from Turkish sides Galatasaray and Besiktas.

Stoke City and Bayern Munich are now vying for Charles N’Zogbia’s signature in January.
The Potters are ready to offer Tuncay to Wigan as part-exchange for the want-away French winger whose move to Birmingham City broke down this summer. Bundesliga side Bayern Munich are also said to be interested although last week N’Zogbia was talking up a possible move to Marseille in January.

Juventus reportedly want Stoke defender Ryan Shawcross. The Turin giants have conceded nine goals in their opening five games and are desperately trying to shore up their defence. Coach Luigi Del Neri has pinpointed the ex-Manchester United defender as the solution to his side’s defensive frailties and is looking to make a bid in the January transfer window.
Shawcross appeared on Del Nieri’s list of priorities after appearing in England manager Fabio Capello’s squad that played against Egypt earlier this year.

Pulis Returns After Bereavement As Stoke Snatch First Win
Tony Pulis returned to the Britannia Stadium after the death of his mother to spur his Stoke City side on to a 2-1 win over Aston Villa to clinch their first win of the season.
Pulis was not expected to be at tonight’s game but appeared at half time at the Britannia as his side turned a 1-0 deficit to snatch a winner with just seven seconds left of injury time.
Villa took a first half lead when Stewart Downing stooped to head a Gabriel Agbonlahor cross past Thomas Sorensen on 34 minutes from the edge of the penalty area.
Five minutes later Stoke thought they should have had a penalty when the ball appeared to strike James Collins on the arm in the box but referee Lee Probert waved away their claims but Stoke should have gone in at half-time two goals behind when Ashley Young’s header went past the post after another superb cross from Agbonlahor.
Pulis arrived at the stadium at half-time and his presence seemed to egg his team on as they took the game by the scruff of the neck in the second half and with just over 10 minutes left Kenwyne Jones scored his first goal for the club with a superb header from a left-wing cross by Matthew Etherington.
The teams looked set for a 1-1 draw but with the last kick of the match Robert Huth guided the ball home from close range after a cross from Etherington on the left.
The win takes Stoke up one place to 18th while Villa stay in seventh.

Liam Lawrence may well still be a Stoke City player despite signing for Portsmouth on transfer deadline day.
The winger moved to the South Coast club along with striker Dave Kitson as part of the deal that took defender Marc Wilson to the Britannia Stadium; however it is believed that Portsmouth lodged his papers 15 minutes after the transfer deadline last Tuesday.
Portsmouth are believed to be working to find a way around the problem but if Lawrence does have to return to Stoke he will be unable to play for the Potters as their 25-man Premier League squad has already been named.
An alternative plan, to loan Lawrence to Pompey with a permanent deal in the January window, is unlikely to happen as Portsmouth already have the maximum of two players from the same parent club with Ibrahima Sonko and Carl Dickinson already on loan at Fratton Park from Stoke.
Lawrence is set to play for the Republic of Ireland in their Euro 2012 qualifier against Andorra in Dublin tonight having turned in an impressive performance during Friday’s 1-0 win in Armenia.
Stoke City have named their 25-man Premier League squad:
Stoke’s 25-man squad is:
Asmir Begovic,
Danny Collins,
Rory Delap,
Salif Diao,
Matthew Etherington,
Abdoulaye Faye,
Ricardo Fuller,
Eidur Gudjohnsen,
Danny Higginbotham,
Robert Huth,
Kenwyne Jones,
Carlo Nash,
Jermaine Pennant,
Danny Pugh,
Ryan Shawcross,
Thomas Sorensen,
Tuncay Sanli,
Ryan Shotton,
Tom Soares,
Michael Tonge,
Jonathan Walters,
Glenn Whelan,
Dean Whitehead,
Andy Wilkinson,
Marc Wilson.
Stoke City have also confirmed that Eidur Godjohnsen’s move to the Britannia Stadium and not a loan move as was previously thought. The Potters have paid French side Monaco £2 million for the 31-year-old Icelander.
Stoke City have signed Monaco striker Eidur Gudjohnsen on a season-long loan.
The Icelander arrived at the club’s training complex early yesterday afternoon and was impressed enough to sign for the club. Negotiations then took place between Stoke and Monaco as to the size of the Potters’ contribution to Gudjohnsen’s wages. The 31-year-old spent last season on loan at Spurs and had been linked with a return to another London club, if not to White Hart Lane. Fulham and West Ham were linked with a move but in the end it was Stoke who took the initiative.
Stoke have also signed former Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant. The 26-year-old spent last season at Spanish side Zaragoza but he struggled as the side languished near the bottom of the table and was disciplined earlier this year after turning up late for training three times in a week. Pennant has signed a loan deal until January.
Portsmouth defender Marc Wilson has signed on at the Britannia Stadium. The deal for the £5 million-rated defender sees winger Liam Lawrence and striker Dave Kitson joining Pompey as part of the deal.
Stoke City are ready to take former Chelsea star Eidur Gudjohnsen on loan.
The Monaco striker spent part of last season on loan at Spurs scoring twice in 13 games but boss Harry Redknapp has decided not to take him back for another loan spell.
The 31-year-old Godjohnsen is said to prefer a move back to London with West Ham or Fulham touted during the summer as a possible destination, but has not been able to agree a deal with either club.
Stoke Ready To Bid £7m For Jenas
The Daily Mirror reports that Stoke City are ready to bid £7 million for Spurs midfielder Jermaine Jenas. This comes just a day after reports that Jenas was set to stay at Spurs after a proposed move to Inter Milan fell through over personal terms.
Jenas is one of four players being linked with a move to Stoke: the Potters are one of a number of clubs interested in Portsmouth defender Marc Wilson and have already had a cash-plus-players bid turned down by Pompey. However, talks are said to have progressed well yesterday and Wilson is rumoured to be ready to have a medical today.
Stoke are also interested in Wigan’s Hugo Rodallega and Middlesbrough defender David Wheater.
Boss Tony Pulis said “It may go to the wire but we’re prepared to wait so we can ensure we get the right deals.”
The Mirror also reports that Stoke midfielder Michael Tonge could be on his way back to Sheffield United. Tonge has started only one Premier League game since signing from the Blades two years ago and new boss Gary Speed wants to take him back to Bramall Lane and make him his first managerial signing.

Manchester City were yesterday being touted as the latest destination for Stoke keeper Asmet Begovic, but the Potters are equally insistent that the Bosnian remains with them.
This week they saw off a £4.5 million bid from Chelsea and are said to have responded by slapping a £10 million price tag on Begovic.
Sunderland are being linked with a £5 million bid for Stoke City striker Tuncay.
Stoke boss Tony Pulis wants to sell the Turkish striker to fund his own last-minute foray into the transfer market.

Manchester City have – almost inevitably – been linked with Stoke keeper Asmet Begovic.
The Bosnian has been the subject of an unwanted bid from Chelsea with the champions offering £4.5 million. Now City are being linked with a bid as boss Roberto Mancini ponders whether to let Shay Given go out on loan.
Fulham are also said to be interested as they face up to the possibility of losing Mark Schwarzer to Arsenal.
New signing Ramires is expected to make his debut for Chelsea.
Branislav Ivanovic has a back problem and is a doubt.
Salomon Kalou could start instead of John Obi Mikel.
Jose Bosingwa is still out with a knee injury.
Stoke Team News
Kenwyne Jones has “an outside chance” of making the Stoke starting-line up, according to boss Tony Pulis.
Mamady Sidibe is a long-term absentee with an Achille injury.
Asmet Begovic will not feature and is the subject of internal disciplinary action after missing the Carling Cup tie with Shrewsbury this week after being the subject of a transfer enquiry from Chelsea.
Stoke are set to sign Portsmouth defender Marc Wilson for £3 million.
Dave Kitson will move to the south coast club as part of the deal. Wilson had been a target for West Brom, who had a £2.5 million offer turned down earlier this week.
Meanwhile Stoke have fined reserve goalkeeper Asmir Begovic after he missed Tuesday’s Carling Cup victory over Shrewsbury. Begovic, who is a transfer target for Chelsea, claims it was a misunderstanding, though boss Tony Pulis says the player refused to play. Club chairman Peter Coates has described the incident as “an internal matter.”
Fulham have joined the race for Stoke keeper Asmir Begovic. The 23-year-old has been the subject of a £4.5 million bid from Chelsea but Stoke boss Tony Pulis insists that he doesn’t need to sell the keeper, who joined in a £3.5 million deal from Portsmouth in Janury.
Fulham boss Mark Hughes is already looking at the possibility of replacing Mark Schwarzer, who seems determined to join Arsenal.
Stoke City have signed Ipswich Town striker Jonathan Walters in a £2.75 million deal.
The 26-year-old had spells with both Blackburn and Bolton before dropping down the leagues, first with Hull City and then with Wrexham and Chester before signing for Ipswich for £150,000 in 2007.
Walters scored 32 goals in 146 games for the Tractor Boys in his three-year spell at the club. He said: “It fulfills a long-term goal of mine to get back in the Premier League.”
