Owen Out With Hamstring Injury

Manchester United striker Michael Owen will be out of action for a few weeks after picking up a hamstring injury in training.

Owen was due to play against Wolves in last night’s Carling Cup tie at Old Trafford but told BBC Radio 5 Live’s Victoria Derbyshire this morning that he was all set to return to action having not played since being substituted in the game at Sunderland on 2 October.

“I had a bit of a tight groin a while ago and I’ve trained for a week preparing for last night’s game but then I had a setback,” he said.

“Unfortunately, that ruled me out for last night and will rule me out for a few weeks as well.

“I got injured in the [Carling] cup final and then subsequently this season I was in the squad for the first 10 games or so but unfortunately because of a training ground injury the other day I’m going to be out for the next few weeks, which is disappointing.
“It’s all part and parcel of football. Everyone gets injured. Hopefully, I can come back and be as strong as ever.”

Owen added that he is happier playing and training with some of the best players in the world and preferred the set-up at United where the club is always challenging for honours rather than being at a smaller mid-table side.

“I’ve had not such a good time at certain clubs where I’ve been in the relegation zone struggling away,” he added in an obvious reference to his time at Newcastle.
