Arsenal Transfer News and Rumours, Sunday 25 July
Arsenal Ready To Bid £15m For Jagielka
Arsenal are ready to test Everton’s resolve with a £15 million bid for defender Phil Jagielka.
The Gunners have already had one bid rejected and Everton boss David Moyes has told his board that he does not wish to part with one of his best players. However, Arsene Wenger is ready to slap in a higher bid as he tries to shore up his defence with another centre back.
Arsenal are also interested in Everton’s Steven Pienaar. The South African’s contract talks seem to have stalled and Arsene Wenger is circling with a bid should Everton decide to cash in. Wenger has had his eye on Pienaar ever since he played for Ajax, but as with Jagielka, David Moyes does not want to sell. However, with Pienaar’s contract ready to expire at the end of the coming season Everton must decide whether to cash in now or risk losing him for nothing next year.
Arsenal Turn Attention To Stekelenburg
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will not be signing David James .Wenger has instead turned his goalkeeping attentions to Ajax’s Maarten Stekelenburg.
The Dutch World Cup keeper is available for around £4 million and at 27 looks a better long-term bet than Wenger’s other goalkeeping target, Fulham’s Mark Schwarzer.
Lyon In Bid To Snatch Remy
The Loic Remy saga drags on with former club Lyon ready to counter any bid from West Ham, Arsenal or Liverpool.
Under the terms of the deal negotiated when Lyon sold Remy to Nice in 2008, they have first option on the player as long as they can match any other bid.
Lyon now have 48 hours to match bids from the Premier League trio and scupper Remy’s move to England.
Remy almost moved back to Lyon during the January transfer window but the two clubs were unable to agree a deal.
