City Agree Deal For David Silva
Manchester City have agreed to sign Spanish international midfielder David Silva. City have agreed a fee with Silva’s club side Valencia – believed to be around £24 million – and he will move to Eastlands after the World Cup.
City boss Roberto Mancini hailed the 24-year-old Silva as one of the best midfielders in Europe and said he hoped he would be a very important player for the club
“I am so pleased he is coming to us, I think he can make a big, big impact for Manchester City. In signing David, we are showing the World that we are bringing the best players here and that we hope to compete to win the Premier League. When players see what is happening at Manchester City and the ambition they are attracted to what we are building and want to be a part of it.”
Silva thanked Valencia for his six years at the club and added: “The time is right for me to seek a new challenge, and I am thrilled about playing in England with Manchester City. I believe the Premier League is one of the best competitions in the world and I want to bring success to City and win trophies for them.”
Silva played 119 games for Valencia after joining them from Celta Vigo in 2004, scoring 21 goals. He has played 37 times for Spain scoring seven goals.

Jovanovic Denies Inter Rumours
Liverpool target Milan Jovanovic has denied rumours that he will renege on a pre-contract agreement he signed with Liverpool to join former Anfield boss Rafa Benitez at Inter Milan.
Jovanovic signed a pre-contract deal with Liverpool in February when Benitez was manager as the 29-year-old striker was available on a Bosman free transfer from Belgian side Standard Liege.
One of the reasons Jovanovic signed the deal was to work with Benitez; and today’s Daily Mirror reported that Benitez was trying to sign Jovanovic for Inter and that the Serb was trying to cancel his Liverpool deal.
However, Jovanovic has told Belgian newspaper Nieuwsblad that he still plans to be at Anfield next season.
“I am going to Liverpool. I have signed there for three years. I repeat: no pre-agreement – a real contract,” Jovanovic said.
“And the departure of Benítez changes nothing. I have maintained contact with the executive board of Liverpool and everything is good.
“I am working to arrange my visa for England. Next week I go there to collect my work permit.
“Everything is in order since in the last two years I have played 75 per cent of the matches for my national side. Next I am looking for a house.
“On the 14th or 15th July I will join the squad for a training camp in Switzerland. But, as from Thursday, I want to start my individual training programme so I can show them immediately that I am worth a place in the side.”

Journalist Arrested Over England Dressing Room Incident

Sunday Mirror Denies Involvement With Pavlos Joseph
A Sunday Mirror journalist has been arrested in South Africa in connection with an incident in which a fan allegedly entered the England dressing room following a World Cup match.
South Africa’s national police commissioner Bheki Cele said the Sunday Mirror’s Simon Wright had been arrested in connection with the incident. Mr Cele said that Mr Wright had been charged with harbouring Pavlos Joseph, who is accused of entering the dressing room, and that police in South Africa “had reason to believe the incident was orchestrated”.
Mr Cele said that Wright allegedly booked hotel accommodations for Joseph using false details and that the journalist had a contract with Joseph for exclusive interviews for seven days “after he made news.”
“Police strongly believe the motive was to put World Cup security in a bad light and possibly to profit from this act,” Mr Cele said.
“Do we believe that it was orchestrated by this journalist for Mr. Joseph? Yes, we do,” he added.
The incident happened at the Green Point Stadium in Cape Town following England’s goalless draw with Algeria. Pavlos Joseph, 32, from London, is alleged to have evaded security and entered the dressing room where he was involved in a verbal altercation with David Beckham.
Mr Joseph claims he chanced upon the dressing room while looking for a toilet, but found himself in the dressing room where he exchanged words about England’s performance with Beckham before being escorted out.
The Sunday Mirror issued a statement today denying that their reporter had anything to do with the incident.
The paper said: “He was engaged in a legitimate story for his newspaper and any suggestion that he or the newspaper was involved with Pavlos Joseph before he entered the England dressing room is entirely false.”
